What does “narrative change” mean? And what does it have to do with creating the world we want? Over here in the Real Food Media hive, these are some of the questions that keep us up at night. And it’s why we love the opportunity to dive deep into just these conversations with peers in the field. I hosted a conversation on these themes at the Sustainable Agriculture and Food System Funders network annual meeting with Michael Roberts from the First Nations Development Institute and Rebecca Terk from Dakota Rural Action. Each shared reflections on their narrative change organizing, including the awesome video below by First Nations Development Institute. Much has stuck with me from that workshop, especially these words from Michael about their research on perceptions about Native Americans in the US: “We realized one of the superpowers we wished we didn’t have is the superpower of invisibility.”
