“Truth is like a seed. No matter how deep you bury it, it will rise.” ― Matshona Dhliwayo
Dear fellow truthseekers, storytellers, and movement builders: 2020 was quite the ride wasn’t it? At the start of this new year, we find ourselves in deep reflection about how the pandemic, racial justice rebellions, and seismic political shifts of this past year have touched our lives, families, and communities. With you, we are balancing on the razor’s edge between grief and hope.
In 2020, Real Food Media pivoted to meet this historic moment, from how our small team stepped up to support movement partners in emergency responses to Covid-19 to strengthening our commitment to the abolition of harmful institutions as vital to racial justice. We continued to uplift workers in the food system and their struggles to be valued and protected as they bring food to our tables.
In this special edition of the Real Food Scoop, we share some highlights from our work in 2020—our “pandemic pivots”, our new initiatives, and our shifts from in-person to virtual engagement. As always, we are deeply grateful to all of our partners—old and new—who inspired us to face new challenges with an even bolder spirit.
Moving into 2021, we are hopeful that the seeds of truth, compassion, and justice that have been planted through our work together are rising.
In community and solidarity,
Tiffani, Anna, Christina, and Tanya
